The increased efficiency and falling prices of solar panels has seen them become very popular with homeowners over the past few years. They provide a way to reduce electricity bills and help the environment. If using solar panels is something that is of interest to you then you will be pleased to know that installation process is not all that difficult.

From idea to completion, the process of installing solar panels takes less than a month. The installation of them actually takes just a few days, with the rest of the time being taken up with planning and finding the best type of solar panels to use. It is something that you can do all by yourself if you wanted to, though most people, even those with some knowledge of the area, find it easier and safer to consult with a professional.

The number of solar panels you need depends upon how much power your home consumes, where it is located in relation to the sun, and how many milli-watts per square inch the solar panels produce. The more expensive the solar panels are, the more power they will be able to harness, so you will need to work out whether you are better off getting a lot of low powered solar panels or fewer, higher powered ones.

The install process itself is fairly simple. Holes need to be drilled into the roof and then metal rails securely bolted down. The solar panels are then attached to the metal rails. Simple as it sounds though, it needs to be done absolutely right, as if the solar panels are not installed correctly then there is a risk of them falling and causing damage to the property and / or causing an injury to those who live within it.

Standard electricians may be willing to take on the job of installing your solar panels, but you are better off taking the time, and incurring the extra expense, to find someone who specializes in that kind of work. There will almost certainly be at least a few people in your area that have relevant experience. Typing the name of your town followed by 'solar panel installation' into Google should give you some options. Alternatively, you could phone up an electrician who has done work for you previously and ask them if they can recommend anyone.
