Origin of Pedal Car
Pedal car is made in such a way that is looks like real automobiles. They were in the market since 1890 and at present it still popular and many children as well as adult are crazy over it. The overall appearance which of the pedal toys which looks like real cars made them sought after by the children and adults alike who are crazy over toy cars. The pedal toy is operated just like bicycles using pedals giving the children to ride and drive the toy cars as if it is a real car. Many of these pedal toys were kept as collector’s items.
During the 1890′s, the first pedal car is made when the invention of automobiles were at their peak. They were made from materials of the real automobiles making it very costly that only the rich children of wealthy parents can afford. The fashion continues until the Great Depression but during the World War II, the production of the pedal toy was slowed down because of the need to use the metals during the war.
The economy began to pick up after the war and the pedal toys regained its popularity. The new versions of the pedal toys that came out after the war were chain driven and with added features that is exactly the replica of real automobiles. These features were horns and headlights and were custom painted. The period also made introductions to the pedal trucks and pedal planes. The 1960′s saw the decline in the interest of pedal toy as the space technology began to capture the interests of the children. This made way for manufacturers to made models that are less expensive in term of materials so that they can also sell then at more affordable prices. This paved the way for pedal toys made from high quality plastic materials like the Big Wheel nearly put an end to pedal toys.
The quality of the materials which are made use largely of high quality steel and metals made this pedal car as collector item. Some are sold to as much as thousand dollars. There are websites in the internet that offer these kinds of pedal toys most of which can last for many decades. Records of the replicas made showed that the 1965 Ford Mustang which is the exact reproduction in smaller version was the classic Ford vehicle which is its first edition was the most popular among the group. The other popular models were the racer pedal cars, fire trucks, Model T and the police cars.
